Glass Design – Veon Glass | Bespoke Structural Glass Solutions https://veonglass.com Specialist in Architectural and Structural Glass Design and Installation Fri, 25 Aug 2017 14:51:07 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Frameless, structural glass balustrade, South Hams, Devon https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/frameless-structural-glass-balustrade-south-hams-devon/ Fri, 25 Aug 2017 14:51:07 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1712 “Where is it? Oh, there it is.”

That’ll be a frameless glass balustrade then!

Our client asked for and got, a clear but protected view, using a simple structural base rail and toughened and ‘SentryGlas’ laminated balustrade panels.

The frameless, structural glass balustrade is a great option for rooms with a view .

Glass staircase balustrade, with European Oak timber handrail, Plymouth, Devon https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/glass-staircase-balustrade-with-european-oak-timber-handrail-plymouth-devon/ Fri, 26 Feb 2016 13:05:54 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1543 A good looking staircase!

The client contacted us to take care of the glass balustrade for his bespoke staircase. After our initial meeting, we priced up the project and following the order returned to fit all the stainless steel button fixings to the treads and template the balustrade panels.

Once the balustrade panels were templated, we transferred these shapes to a CAD package (Computer Aided Design) and sent them for manufacture. This method allows for all the quirks that can come up on a staircase like this to be ironed out in the templating and all the panels to be physically viewed in place and agreed. It can save a lot of headaches!

Once the glass was in, we fitted it all and attached the stainless steel handrail brackets, prepared for Robin Milne (a very talented furniture maker and joiner), to fit the European Oak handrail.

We think it all looks pretty good!

Structural Glass Floor and Glass beams, Exeter, Devon https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/structural-glass-floor-and-glass-beams-exeter-devon/ Fri, 25 Sep 2015 18:38:10 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1431 A great job, for a great client!

The project brief was to design a bespoke structural glass floor, integrating a structural glass beam, to site into and existing opening in the floor area, which at the time was protected by a balustrade.

The client wanted to open up the floor area of the room – to make it a more functional space – while still allowing light to flood through to the ground floor.

Having run through various ideas with the client on site and measured up the opening, we proceeded to produce initial drawings for the conservation officer’s approval. As the building was of historical significance, the glass beam was an important element, which minimised the visual impact of the structure when viewed from the outside.

We used Low-Iron glass on the project, which had less of a green ‘tint’ due to the lower iron content. This is a good idea when you have multiple panels of glass laminated together, as the green tint can build up.

Having agreed the design, we drew up the final construction and manufacturing drawings and proceeded to procurement.

The installation was carried out by the ever capable Steve Ellis and team.

We finished the glass edge off with a rather neat stainless steel trim, which looks the business!

Stainless steel and glass, post and rail balustrade, Torbay, Devon https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/stainless-steel-and-glass-post-and-rail-balustrade-torbay-devon/ Fri, 14 Aug 2015 16:51:18 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1414 The clients wanted a simple, elegant and cost effective balustrade for their new garden terrace.

A few options we’re talked through at design stage, looking at the aesthetic and practical considerations. The final design – face fixed to the outside of the wall rather than the more standard option of posts fixed to the top surface – allowed for a much increased terrace area, giving a more spacious feel.

Little design details like the differing lengths of the handrails on the stairs, due to the differing levels of the garden, allow for an individual look.

Mirror polished, 316 stainless steel was used throughout, due to the coastal location, thereby minimising the cleaning and management of the metalwork.

All in all a great job, with clients who were a pleasure to work with!

The client specified a Vitral, A74 rooflight system and asked us if we were able to take on the installation. Having spoken to Vitral, we travelled to their head office to complete the required training courses.

Following this process, we surveyed the site and produced the construction drawings for the rooflight and the bespoke aluminium flashings.

On the installation, the rooflight went in like a dream and the final look is fantastic.

One of the great advantages of the Vitral system, is the fact the units are factory sealed, giving fantastic U-Values. The system is also fully CE marked in accordance with BS/EN14351-1 and tested to EN12101-2 for full life safety smoke evacuation and in accordance with CWCT TN66/67 impact testing.

Structural glass link/extension, Mousehole, Cornwall https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/structural-glass-linkextension-mousehole-cornwall/ Thu, 28 May 2015 12:26:34 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1219 A simple and elegant structural glass link/extension, with bespoke frameless glass door, to the rear of an old fisherman’s cottage in Mousehole, Cornwall.

A tight space to work in, especially with some very large pieces of glass, but with the efficient help of the builder (W P Williams Ltd), we were able to design and install a system that provides the client with a clean and modern glass addition, to add light to the rear of the cottage.

Structural Glass rooflight, Rosudgeon, Cornwall https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/structural-glass-rooflight-rosudgeon-cornwall/ Thu, 28 May 2015 12:15:51 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1213 The client wanted to create a very minimal, structural glass rooflight, to run down on either side of the ridge line of his renovation of an old Chapel, in Rusudgeon, Cornwall.

The brief was to provide a minimally framed system, that would have no visible support structure at the ridge, giving a clear ‘slice’ out of the roof line and flooding the internal space with light.

Having discussed and drawn up the design principal, we surveyed the site and then once manufacture was complete, returned and installed the frame and the structural glass elements.

The final design allows for a view straight through the roof to the sky beyond, whether from inside, or outside the building.

Glass balustrade, with stainless steel handrail, South Hams, Devon https://veonglass.com/portfolio-items/glass-balustrade-with-stainless-steel-handrail-south-hams-devon/ Fri, 05 Dec 2014 13:27:32 +0000 https://veonglass.com/?post_type=avada_portfolio&p=1145 We were tasked with providing a simple and minimal glass balustrade to the client’s new timber balcony. Having discussed a frameless glass balustrade option, it was decided that due to the timber structure of the balcony and also the high winds experienced in the area, we would include a stainless steel handrail, to give strength to the structure and take the loading off the timber beams.

The aluminum base rail has bespoke, powder-coated cover pressings, to match the facias, soffits and door and window colour on the rest of the build.
